After working in the industry for about a year and a half I decided I wanted to take some time out and start working on my own projects for a change. So I started renting a studio with my friend and started my project & Exhale.
I was really intrigued by virtual reality and wanted to make a completely immersive experience. I discovered that most of the time people aren't fully engaged in VR as the physical touch of the real world doesn't match up with the VR world. E.G they're sitting on a roller coaster and can't feel the handlebars. I decided to look into intangible things as if something is intangible it can't be physically felt and this would then allow the audience to be completely immersed.
So my project & Exhale is an experience where the user is in a room full of fog and they are able to manipulate sounds and light reflecting off the fog with their hands. I'm using Leap Motion for the hand tracking and have taught myself Unreal Engine 4 over the course of this project for the simulation. The song used is called 'The shape of things to come' by the mystic and amazing High Skies. You should check out some more of their music!
I showed & Exhale at our open studios on the 17 September and got lots of positive feedback. Feel free to look at the first look video and video from the open studios event.
I've yet to get hold of a VR headset to try & Exhale on.
